CALIBRATION OF FAST NEUTRON FILM BADGES (in Italian)

Journal Article · · Minerva nucleare
OSTI ID:4790753
After the introduction of fast neutron detection with nuclear emulsions and the description of a film-badge for personnel dosimetry of neutrons, the method used for the calibration is illustrated. The work consists of an evaluation of the doses and relative standard deviation. The smallest dose that can be revealed is l5 mRem and the highest is l5 rem. The standard deviation changes from a minimum of about l5% for the highest dose, to a msximum of about 27% for the smallest one. A l00 mc RaD-Be source is used for the calibration. The neutron flux is known with a standard deviation of 15%. A graph was drawn up to determine the per cent standard deviation corresponding to the number of the traces scanned. This graph is useful for microscopists during the scanning of the emulsions. Other possible causes of errors were evaluated: influence of fading and of the neutron incidence angle, and fog due to the gamma radiation. From these results it is possible to determine the correction coefficients and improve the precision on the dose measured. (auth)
