Angular correlation investigations were undertaken in order to elucidate the influence of extranuclear fields. It is shown that for the gamma - gamma - cascades of Dy/sup 160/ and Er/sup 166/, most of the observed attenuation effects can be explained by magnetic interaction of the electron shell with the magnetic dipole moment of the nucleus. A method for determination of nuclear moments in paramsgnetic materials is described. Experimental results indicate that the magnetic field H/sub O/ which influences the nuclear spin precession is the external field H/sub ext./ modified by a paramagnetic correction factor: H/sub O/ = H/sub ext./ (1 + C'/(T -- THETA )). The g-factors of the first rotational state of two even-even nuclei were measured; for 36 plus or minus 0.06. The gamma - gamma -angular correlation behavior on reversal of the magnetization of ferromagnetic Tb was investigated. Thence the mean life of the first vibrational state of its decay product, Dy/sup 160/ was determined as (tau/sub N/ = (1.1 plus or minus 0.4) x 10/sup -12/ sec. (auth)
