MEASUREMENT OF SAFETY ROD DROP TIMES AT THE LPTR

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4789351
A sensor for measuring LPTR rod drop time is described which consists of a filter coil rated at 10h affixed to a split tube sized to fit around the outside of an LPTR magnet guide tube. When a measurement is desired, the device is lowered over the guide tube and seated on top of the core with the coil in a horizontal plan corresponding to the fully inserted limit of the soft-iron armature on the safety rod. The coil assembly is connected to an oscilloscope which is then triggered by any signal which can initiate a rod drop. By observing the oscilloscope, rod drop measurements can be made. (J.R.D.)
