The Relative Biological Effectiveness of 22-Mevp X-Rays, Cobalt-60 Gamma Rays, and 200-Kvcp X-Rays: I. General Introduction and Physical Aspects
Physical aspects of experiments on the RBE of Co60 gamma rays and 22-Mevp x rays relative to standard 200-kvcp x radiation (HVL 1.4 mm Cu) are discussed. The physical conditions of exposure at a depth in a phantom and the necessary correction to the readings on a calibrating Victoreen chamber exposed at the specimen level are described in detail for all three radiations. The accuracy of the absorbed-dose estimates and their confirmation with the ferrous sulfate chemical dosimeter are also pointed out.
