PRODUCTION OF LIGHT NUCLEI BY BOMBARDING HEAVY ELEMENTS WITH 660 Mev PROTONS (in Russian)

The cross sections for production of Be/sup 7/, Fe/sup 18/, Na/sup 24/, Mg/sup 28/, Si/sup 31/, and P/sup 32/ from Al, Cu, Sb, Sn, Bi, and U by 660Mev proton bombardment are studied. For all target nuclei sigma (Na/sup 24/) > sigma (F/sup 18/). The data on the cross sections for light nuclei production indicates that the production of the heavy fragments Si/sup 31/ and P/sup 32/ from copper and neighboring elements occurs as a result of spallation and symmetric fission. Formation of lighter isotopes from all target nuclei occurs via flssion and fragmentation. The relative contributions of the indicated processes for Na/sup 24/ nuclei from Cu are estimated on basis of their angular and energy distributions. Na/sup 24/ nuclei with energies exceeding that of Coulomb repulsion are detected in the front hemisphere. The experimental cross sections are compared with some consequences of the dispersion theory of direct nuclear reactions. (auth)
