A STUDY OF THE COULOMB EXCITATION OF THE SECOND LEVEL 2'$sup +$ OF Pd$sup 10$$sup 4$ (in Russian)

An enriched target of Pd/sup 104/ (containing 6% Pd/sup 105/) was bombarded with 42-Mev nitrogen ions. A 0.78-Mev gamma line, which is due to the transition between the 1.34 and the 0.56-Mev levels in Pd/sup 104/ was observed, but the direct transition from the 1.34-Mev excited 2'/sup +/ level could not be observed because of the 1.37-Mev gamma from the N + C reaction. The yield of excitations to the 1.34-Mev level was estimated by calculation to be 35% of the total number of excitations. The value of the B(E2)/sub ) yields 2'/, excitation of the 1.34-Mev level in Pd/sup 204/ was then calculated to be 0.015 x 10/sup -48/ e/sup 2/ cm/sup 4/. This value agrees with the estimate of Weiskopf (single-particle model). The lifetime of the 1.34-Mev level was calculated as 5.8 x 10/sup -12/ sec. The measurement error was 35%. (TTT)
