Neutron-deficient tantalum isotopes produced by 660Mev proton spallation of gold were studied with a 100channel gamma spectroraeter, Ta/sup 175/ was identified by measuring the actiwity Hf/sup 175/, which after three raonths exhibited 340 and 230 kev gamma lines. The half lite of Ta/sup 175/ was determined to be 10 plus or minus 1 hours. The haif life for Ta/sup 173/ was found to be 3.5 plus or minus 0.2 hours. The total decay curve of the tantalum fraction contained periods of 1.2, 4, 12, and 53 hours. The 1.2 hour period belongs to Ta/sup 174/ (R.V.J.)
