A study is made of the half lives of M1 transitions of the type g/sub 7/ 2 yields d/sub 5/3 in the spherical nuclei Eu/sup 147/, Eu/sup 149/, a nd Eu/ sup 151/, which are situated directly below the deformation region. The half lives of the first excited states (g,) for these nuclei equal 1.8 plus or minus 0.2 x 10/sup -10/, 3.2 plus or minus 0.2 x 10/sup -10/, and 3.4 plus or minus 0.2 x 10/sup -9/ sec respectively, and the M1 transition delay factors are 115, 78, and 47 respectively, in contrast to the mean value approximately 300 for other one-proton l-forbidden M1 transitions. The observed small values of the delay factors and their monotonic decrease when approaching the deformation region are seen to reflect the growing contribution of collective motion and hence the attenuation of l-forbiddenness.
