Design and development work is described which resulted in the final specification of the CVTR pressure tube assembly. The basis for the selection of the U-tube type pressure tube is presented. The functions and design conditions of the pressure tube assembly and components are given with pertinent stress analyses and the reasons for the selections of materials. Testing of two prototype pressure tube assemblies is discussed. (auth)
