THE ACCOMMODATION COEFFICIENTS OF HELIUM AND KRYPTON ON ZIRCALOY-2

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4786285
Accommodation coefficients of helium and krypton on Zircaloy-2 were measured in a single wire cylindrical cell by the constant pressure method as a function of temperature of the Zircaloy-2 filament over the range 40 to 350 deg C at cold surface temperatures of 42, 140, and 171 deg C. For gas-covered (contaminated) surfaces, the values of the accommodation coefficients for helium followed the equation AC = (-1.66 x 10/sup -4/ T/sub f/ + 0.368) plus or minus 0.020 at 42 deg C and AC = (-3.36 x 10/sup -4/ T/sub f/ + 0.449) plus or minus 0.015 at the higher cold side temperatures. For krypton, the gas-covered surface value at 42 deg C was found to be 0.861 plus or minus 0.016, independent of filament temperature, while a single determination at 141 deg C led to a value of 0.96.
