SPINS OF NEUTRON RESONANCES IN Pu$sup 239$ FROM SCATTERING MEASUREMENTS

Measurements of neutron scattering from the low energy resonances of Pu/ sup 239/ were performed using the Harwell 28Mev linear electron accelerator as a pulsed neutron source. The scattering yield sigma /sup o/ GAMMA /sub n/ was measured for eight resonances, resulting in five assignments of spin J = 1 and three assignments of J = 0. The results support a multi-level analysis of the low energy neutron cross sections of Pu/sup 239/. The results are consistent with equal average fission widths and equal average radiation widths for the two spin states. (auth)
