ORIENTATION DEPENDENCE OF STRUCTURE IN PYROLYTIC GRAPHITE

Journal Article · · Nature

An x-ray investigation of nucleated pyrolytic graphite was conducted in which preferred orientation and the orientation dependence of individual crystallites after heat treatment were measured. The results show that a sharp change in layer stacking order in a temperature range above 2000 deg C occurs in all graphitization processes. A stress relief mechanism appears to be consistent with the observed behavior. (D.L.C.)
