A rapid and sensitive flame spectrophotometric method was developed for the determination of strontium in calcareous material. lt is satisfactory for determining strontium in the concentration range from 0.l to 1 g mu per ml in the presence of 0.2 to 5 mg of calcium per ml. Strontium is determined at a wavelength of 460.7 m mu by means of a high-resolution flame spectrophotometer,; calcium is used as a radiation buffer. Methods were devised for circumventing some of the common anionic interferences, such as phosphate and sulfate. Also, a previously reported procedure for the preparation of strontium-free calcium carbonate was improved. (auth)
