EXPERIMENTAL DATA ON NEW PION RESONANCES (in Russian)

Xenon and propane 17-liter bubble chambers were used in investigations of 1) pi /sup -/+ p yields pi /sup -/ + pi /sup 0/ + p reactions on free and quasi-free protons at pi - energy p0 = 2.8 Bev/c. Total mass distribution diagrams were constructed for 170 events of pi /sup 0/ production at p/sub 0/ =2.8 Bev and p/sub 0/ = 7.2 Bev in xenon-propane mixtures and for 2) pi /sup -/ + n yields pi /sup -/ + pi /sup -/ + p on quasi-free neutrons in freon. The first reaction was also studied in freon (C/sub 2/F/sub 5/Cl/sub 3/) at p/sub 0/ = 2.8 Mev/c. 228 select ed events of pi /sup -/ + (A,Z) yields pi /sup -/ + p + m gamma + (A,Z)' (m = 1 with stopped protons) showed that the bipion mass spectrum; with Q = --2 charge, I = 2; practically coincides with the Q = --1 spectrum. The resonance peaks for the second reaction were found at energies M approximately 0.59, 0.78, 0.98, and 1.2 Mev. (R.V.J.)
