IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO VIRTUAL-EARTH AMPLIFIERS

A d-c amplifier is designed for use as a differentiating amplifier in reactor period meters. The amplifier includes a feedback resistor connected between input and output for virtual-earth input conditions and is provided with a smoothing circuit comprising a first capacitor connected in series with a second resistor across the feedback resistor. A pair of oppositely poled diodes is connected in parallel between the first capacitor-second resistor junction and the virtualearth potential, so that the first capacitor acts in parallel with the feedback resistor to give a long time constant for smoothing input noise and is connected to the virtual-earth point during input changes to reduce the time constant. Thus, the overshoot of the reactor period indication is reduced. (D.L.C.)
