The concentration of C or S isotopes is performed through partition between CS/sup 2/ and a xanthogenate. Three methods are described: (1) exchange between an aqueous solution of the xanthogenate and a CCl/sub 4/ solution of CS/ sub 2/ or gaseous CS/sub 2/, (2) partial decomposition of the xanthogenate with acid, (3) partial dissolution of CS/sub 2/ in a mixture of an alcohol and alkali in the presence of a salt, e.g. CuSO/sub 4/, which precipitates the xanthogenate formed.
