DRIVE EQUIPMENT FOR THE CONTROL AND SAFETY RODS OF NUCLEAR REACTORS
This drive equipment for the control and safety rods of a reactor comprises a hollow screw, which is axially movable and engaged within a female screw mounted in the rotor of a first electric motor, and which supports by a coupling the control rod. A control shaft able to slide within the hollow screw is locked within the screw against rotation relative to it and is fixed to the rotor of a second electric motor which is able to induce a small angular displacement of the control shaft and so to the hollow screw, while a spring is provided for resetting this system. The rotor of the first motor induces the movement of the control rod during reactor operation, while the angular displacement acts on the coupling for releasing the control rod which afterward is propelled by spring action into the reactor.
