DEVICE FOR THE EXECUTION OF CONTROLLED LINEAR MOVEMENTS

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4782797

In order to combine the slow moving control rod drive with a scramming mechanism, the control rod is supported by an element able to slide, but not to rotate, in the cylindrical casing of the control rod mechanism and forming a female screw in which the screw driven by the control motor engages. This screw forms part of an intermediate piece that has an axial channel of square cross section and is coupled with the driving axle by a bar constltuting an extension of this driving axle and having a corresponding square cross section and sIiding in the axial channel. The said intermediate piece has catches which, when the piece is in its normal, uppermost position, lock it with retractable catches mounted on the driving axle. For scramming, these latter catches are operated so as to release the intermediate piece, which may be propelled into the reactor together with the control rod by spring action. (NPO)
