A method is given for preparing radiation-resistant lubricants which are liquid at room temperature. The method comprises alkylating benzene with propylene tetramer at 50 to l00 deg F in the presence of HF as catalyst, recovering from the alkylate a distillate fraction boiling above 250 deg C, preferably in the 340 to 460 deg C range, and adding 5 wt% of a viscosity index improver, such as polyisobutylene or polymethacrylate. The lubricant may also be thickened with a grease thickening agent. (D.L.C.)
