A control apparatus is described which operates entirely inside the reactor and which takes up little space in the inoperative position. The apparatus comprises rods or strips of neutron-absorbing material pivoted at their ends between the inoperative Position above the fuel rods and the operative position between the fuel rods. The apparatus may be combined with any device for altering the distances between the fuel rods and is applicable to mobile reactor installations, such as marine installations. (D.L.C.)
