POSTIRRADIATION URETERAL OBSTRUCTION (in Polish)

Journal Article · · Polski Przeglad Radiol. i Med. Nuklearmej
OSTI ID:4780878

Fourteen cases of ureteral obstruction due to radiation therapy in gynecological cancers are discussed. Ureteral obstruction was diagnosed in 11 cases, in two cases there was the stricture of the intramural part of the ureter and in one case the ureter was dilated with the resulting vesico-renal reflux. The onset of the lesion is slow and insiduous. The early symptoms of the lesion are pains in the lumbar region and in the lower abdomen the late ones are uraemia terminating in anuria. The early stages of the disease may be cured by some local procedures, but the late call for surgical intervention. It is believed that the lesion may be prevented by large doses of tocopherol given during the radiotherapy. (auth)
