PHYSICAL CHEMICAL CONSTANTS OF H$sub 2$$O$$sup 1$$sup 8$ (in German)

The elementary separation factor alpha for the H/sub 2/O/sup 16/-H/sub 2/O/sup 1 system was determined in the temperature range from 20 to 210 deg C by the differential method, and an equation for the temperature dependence of alpha was given, according to which alpha = 1.0038 for 100 deg C. From the alpha values the difference of the heats of evaporation (14.97 cal/mol), the vapor pressure of H/sub 2/O/sup 18/ for 20 to 210 deg C, and the boiling temperature of H/sub 2/O/sup 18/ at 760 Torr (100.13 deg C) were calculated. The difference of the refractive indices n/sub H/sub 2/O/sup 18/-n/sub H/sub 2/sup O/18/ W as determined in dependence on the H/sub 2/O/sup 18/ concentration in water at 20 deg C. With the help of these calculations, DELTA n for 100% H/sub 2/O/sup 18/ at 20 deg C was calculated ( DELTA n = 3.4 x 10/sup -4/). The temperature coefficient of the refractive index in the range between 10 and 30 deg C was determined as -(1.18 to 1.20) x 10/sup -6/. The density of H/sub 2/O/sup 18/ was determined in dependence on concentration at 25 and 30 deg C, from which the density of 100% H/sub 2/O/sup 18/ at these temperatures was calculated. The temperature dependence of the density of water with various H/sub 2/O/sup 18/ concentration was determined in the temperature range from 25 to 40 deg C. (trauth)
