SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC STUDY OF REAGENTS FOR INDIUM DETERMINATION (in Russian)

A study was made of the spectrophotometric characteristics of 16 reagents forming colored compounds with indium. Absorption spectra of the molecular forms of the reagents, ionic forms, and also of their complexes with indium were measured. The shift of lambda /sub max/ was calculated; the values of the molar extinction coefficients and the integral spectrum areas are given. The pH effect on the absorption of the reagents and their complexes with indium was studied; optimum conditions of complexing were found, and the composition of some complexes was established. A comparison of all the studied reagents for indium was made on the basis of the data obtained. The following criteria were taken into account: the shift of lambda /sub max/ on the formation of a colored compound; the, absolute and relative variations of the molar coefficient on the conversion from the molecular form of the reagent to its complex with indium; the difference of the pH values of the complex formation and of the formation of the salt form of a reagent. On the basis of the data obtained, methylthymol blue, xylenol orange, and eriochrome cyanine are considered to be the best of all the reagents studied. (auth)
