An atomic-beam magnetic-resonance apparatus of the flop-in type was used to measure the nuclear spins and hyperfine-structure separations of the /sup 2/S/ sup 1/2/ electronic ground state for several radioactive isotopes of silver and gold. The results, together with calculated values of the nuclear magnetic- dipole moments, are given. All isotopes were produced by cyclotron bombardment. Resonance detection was accomplished by collecting the radioactive atoms on a sulfur-coated surface. The activity on the surface due to Ag/sup 112/, Ag/sup 113/, and Au/sup 196m/ was counted in continuous-flow methane counters; whereas, the activity due to Au/sup 194/, Au/sup 195/ , and Au/sup 196/ was counted in low- background scintillation crystal counters. The Fermi-Segre formula was used to calculate the nuclear magnetic moment from the measured hyperfine structure separation DELTA nu with values of DELTA nu and mu /sub I/ previously measured directly for stable isotopes of the same element. A technique of multiple-quantum transitions was used for measurements on Au/sup 196/, since the DELTA nu of Au/sup 196/ is so large that the standard transition could not be observed with the atomic-beam apparatus.
