HYPERFINE STRUCTURES, ISOTOPE SHIFTS, AND NUCLEAR MOMENTS OF Hg$sup 195$, Hg$sup 195$m, AND Hg$sup 19$$sup 4$

The hyperfine structures of five lines in the optical spectra of Hg/sup 195/, Hg/sup 195m/, and Hg/sup 194/ were investigated under high resolution. The nuclear moments, calculated from ratios of hyperfine splittings, are mu (195/sup m/) = -1.060 plus or minus 0.01 nm, Q(195/sup m/) = 1.5 plus or minus 1 b, and mu (195) = +0.526 plus or minus 0.005 nm. Isotope shifts measured relative to Hg/sup 196/ were found to be DELTA (195-196) =+77.2 plus or minus 5 mK, DELTA (195/sup m/-196) = +92.6 plus or minus 5 mK, and DELTA (194-196) =+143 plus or minus 10 mK. The last result is not in agreement with published measurements. Further investigation is required before a theory can be considered applicable. (auth)
