ON THE POSSIBILITY OF INCREASING THE BEAM INTENSITY OF A SYNCHROCYCLOTRON WITH AN AUXILIARY CENTRAL DEE

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4778964
Experimental results of tests conducted on the Harwell 110-in. synchrocyclotron with the object of increasing the beam intensity are described and examined in relation to the machine parameters. It is shown that the progressive loss of ions from the beam during acceleration can reasonably be accounted for by the varintion of dee voltage amplitude. Under favorable conditions of constant dee voltage amplitude (or more exactly, constant stable area in phasespace), up to a threefold increase in beam might be achieved. (auth)
