THE ELECTRICAL RESISTIVITY OF SODIUM, POTASSIUM, RUBIDIUM AND CESIUM IN THE LIQUID STATE

The electrical resistivities of sodium (to 853 deg C), potassium (to 764 deg C), rubidium (to 752 deg C), and cesium (to 877 deg C) were measured by means of a high precision modified Kelvin bridge circuit. Expressions for the electrical re sistivity as a function of temperature were derived by a least squares fit of the data. It was found that with the exception of lithium, the electrical resistivity of an alkali metal is proportional to its atomic number at all temperatures. The thermal conductivity of rubidium and cesium were calculated over the temperature range by means of the Wiedemann-Franz-Lorenz equation. (auth)
