A pressure vessel arrangement for gas-cooled reactors is described which allows the functioning of firesuppressing equipment in the event of reactor depressurization. An impervious membrane with a pervious support backing which makes the membrane more resistant to rupture by egress than by ingress, is adapted to seal a passageway in the pressure vessel, preferably a coolantsampling pipe. A source of fire-extinguishing liquid, preferably borated water, is connected to the passageway. (D.L.C.)
