S>An arrangement of a pressure vessel with pipes passing obliquely through the wall is described which facilitates Joining the pipes to the wall by welding. This arrangement entails bosses passing through the wall at the desired places with pipes attached to the boss ends. The bosses are tapered at the ends cortacting the wall and the edge of the elliptical apertures of the wall receiving the bosses are chamfered to conform to the surfaces of the bosses. This arrangement is of particular use in reactor pressure vessels with standpipes running through their spherical ends. (D.L.C.)
