Single crystals of K/sup 14/NO/sub 3/ and K/sup 15/NO/sub 3/, grown from aqueo us solution of purified salt, were gamma irradiated at 4.2 or 77 deg K. Five separate EPR signals were clearly distinguished and individually studied in empirically determined optimum conditions in both crystals. Comparable signals were observed in K/sup 15/NO/sub 3/, which showed the same symmetry properties but appeared as doublets with total hyperfine splitting (HFS) reduced, relative to the triplets in K/sup 14/NO/sub 3/, in the ratio of the nuclear magnetic moments of N/sup 15/ and N/sup 14/. The results are explained by attributing the EPR signals, termed triplets I, II, III, and IV, to radicals containing nitrogen. The characteristics of each triplet are discussed. (P.C.H.)
