NUCLEAR REACTOR

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4776785

In order to protect the pressure tubes in a reactor from too high temperatures, a deflection tube is placed in each pressure tube for enclosing the fuel elements and to form a narrow annular interspace with the inner surface of the pressure tube. Before entering the pressure tube the coolant flow is divided into a principal portion flowing over the fuel elements and into a secondary portion flowing through the annular interspace. In case the coolant is constituted by steam an additional flow of water is provided in the annular interspace. After having passed through the reactor the principal and the secondary flow portion are reunited. (NPO)
