COLUMBIUM ALLOY EXTRUSION PROGRAM. PHASE V. TUBING PROGRAM. Interim Report VI. July 15, 1962-October 15, 1962

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4776642

The Nb and Nb alloy extrusion program was revised from the pilot production of D-31 T'' sections to the goal production of tubing of the alloys X-110 (Nb-10W-1Zr-0.1C) and B-86 (Nb-5Mo-5V-1Zr). Progress in the first 3-month period of this revised program is described. Two 8-in. dia ingots of each aIIoy were melted and converted to 4-in. dia billet stock by extrusion. Tube blank extrusions of 8 : 1 ratio were made from 3200 to 3400 deg F. The effects of various process parameters are reported, and the future program is discussed. This will include additional tube blank extrusions and a tube-reducing program. (auth)
