NEUTRON YIELDS FROM HIGH-POWER /theta/-PINCH DEVICE

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4775815
A fast compression system which utilizes a maximum of 384,000 joules of energy is discharged in a single-turn, shaped coil around either a 4-in.- or a 8- in.-dia discharge tube. A magnetic bias field is initially produced in the coil antiparallel to the field on the first half cycle of the main discharge. Neutron production in deuterium plasmas was measured as a function of bank voltage, bias field, and deuterium pressure. The appearance of the compressed plasma was photographed in the axial direction of the coil using a fast image converter camera which takes either streak or three frame pictures. (auth)
