METHODS OF OBTAINING SINTERED BERYLLIUM OXIDE

A method is given for preparing sintered beryllium oxide of high density and purity. The method comprises adding a mineral acid or a beryllium salt thereof to beta-beryllium hydroxide, heating the salt-hydroxide mixture to form a beryllium oxide containing a little more than 1% of the salt, and sintering the oxide mixture. The beryllium salt must be one which decomposes to beryllium oxide under the sintering conditions and is preferably beryllium sulfate. (D.L.C.)
