An apparatus is designed for measuring the over-all length and weight of a column of fuel pellets prior to insertion into a can. The apparatus comprises a chamel, means at one end of the channel for feeding pellets one by one into the channel, detector means at the other end movable by the leading pellet of the column, means for arresting the pellet feed when the detector movement exceeds a lower limit, and means for indicating when the detector movement exceeds an upper limit. Pivoting means is provided for indicating whether the weight of the coluxan falls within tolerance limits. (D.L.C.)
