BS>A method is outlined for producing canned reactor fuel elements with a molten heat-transfer metal between the can and fuel sections, The method comprises loading the fuel sections with lnterposed solid discs of the heattransfer metal into the can and heating the can from bottom to top to melt the discs. In order to assure that the air escapes from the can during the melting, the can is vibrated, a reduced pressure is maintained in the can, and/or a compression device is introduced in the upper end of the can.
