PROPOSED NOMENCLATURES FOR THE HELIUM ALLOTROPES

A discussion of He allotropes is presented in which it is noted that designations such as Re I, Re II, He/sup 3/, and He/sup 4/ are already in use. It is proposed that the allotropes of this element be named by the letters alpha, beta, and gamma. Using this system, the body-centered cubic phase is called alpha, the hexagonal close-packed phase beta, and the cubic close-packed phase gamma. (J.R.D.)
