Allotropic transformation in titanium-zirconium alloys

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:147201
In titanium-zirconium alloys, the transformation from the high-temperature body-centered cubic beta solid solution to the low-temperature hexagonal close-packed alpha solid solution is shown to take place, at least partially, at all compositions and at rates of cooling as high as 8000 C/sec. This transformation is not complete, however, and the amount of the beta solid solution that is retained is a maximum in alloys containing 50 at. % of each metal.
