Experiments arising out of the construction of nuclear research centers belonging to the CNEN, viz. the National Laboratories at Frascati, the Ispra Nuclear Study Centre, and the Casaccia Nuclear Study Centre are reported. Par ticular study conditions caused by the unforeseeable development of the Center's requirements are referred to. It is indisperisable to aim at elasticity in every undertaking plained so as to ensure maximum utility in the present and the possibility of meeting further needs in the future. An account is given of events leading up to the creation of the three centers, the criteria followed, and the preliminary studies carried out, as well as the main problems that solved. Spectal attention is paid to the loading trials carried out in the model of the large topmost floor of the reactor building at the Ispra Centre, to the same Centre's problems of water supply, and to the construction of the Gamma Field at the Casaccia Centre.
