ABS>The method of Born approximation is used to calculate the elastic scattering cross section of fast protons by a prolate spheroidal nucleus; the nuclear potential is represented by a complex rectangular well of constant depth and sharp cut-off, and the Coulomb potential is taken to be that produced by a uniform distribution of protons within the nucleus. Numerical results for the Ta nucleus-are in fair agreement with experimental data. (auth)
