NUCLEAR REACTOR FUEL ELEMENT HAVING A THERMOCOUPLE JUNCTION WITHIN ITS SHEATH

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4765234
An arrangement is described for bringing a thermocouple into close thermal contact with a fuel element sheath without welding or brazing. In this arrangement, the radially finned sheath has a single eccentric fin root formed between two fins near the cap on the base of the fuel element, and a hole is drilled in the fin root so that the minimum thickness between the hole and the inner - sheath surface is the same as the normal sheath thickness. A thermocouple cable with its end deformed is force-fitted into the hole. (D.L.C.)
