Chemical exchange equilibria are decisive for the distribution of hydrogen isotopes between liquid and vapor of azeotropic acid/witer mixtures. The dissociation of the nitric acid calculated from the experimentally-determined elementiry separation factor for hydrogen isotopes by distillation of the azeotropic nitric acid/water mixture was compared with the value determined from Raman spectroscopic studies.
