OSTI ID:4764911
>A process is given for separating U from Pu and fission products in irradiated U. The process comprises dissoiving the irradiated U in a halogen fluoride under such conditions that the volatile PuF/sub 6/ is not formed, and distilling off the volatile UF/sub 6/. The dissolution preferably is carried out in BrF/sub 3/ with F/sub 2/ or SbF/sub 5/ added to improve the dissolution reaction, and the formation of PuF/sub 6/ is avoided by continuous removal of the Br/sub 2/ and BrF products of the dissolution.
