DETECTION AND CONTINUOUS REGISTRATION OF THE CONTENT OF SHORT-LIVED RADIOACTIVE AEROSOLS IN THE AIR BY MEANS OF A FILTER "SATURATION" METHOD (in Russian)

A description is given of a filter saturation method for continuously recording short-life radioactive aerosols. The maximum sensitivity of the method is up to 10/sup -17/ C/l for single determinations. For continuous automatic recording of samples with half lives from a fraction of a second to several minutes, the sensitivity is 10/sup -15/ C/l. The principle of the method is based on the compensation of decaying atoms by the newly collected atoms (saturation state). Thus the filter activity is proportional to the aerosol activity. With continuous sampling and short half lives the activity of the aerosols is directly proportional to the filter activity and in reverse proportion to the sampling rate. The construction of the filter for simultaneous recording of alpha - and BETA -active aerosols is shown. (R.V.J.)
