ENERGY RESPONSE OF LANDSVERK IONIZATION CHAMBERS TO MONOENERGETIC GAMMA RAYS

An energy response calibration of Landsverk L-65, L-81, and L-83 pocket chambers was carried out using monoenergetic gamma-emitting radioisotopes. Since the intensity of the sources was low, the pocket chambers were used as ratemeters and the ionization currert was read on a vibrating-reed electrometer. The dose rate of each isotope (Co/sup 60/, Cs/sup 137/, Hg/sup 203/, and Ce/sup 141/) was calibrated with a scintillation spectrometer. The angular response of the chambers for energies of 1.25 Mev, 662 kev, 279 kev, and 145 kev, respectively, was measured in one quadrant. The effect of wall thickness on the energy response was also investigated. (auth)
