UNTEMPERED MARTENSITE AFFECTS STRESS CORROSION OF TYPE 410 STAINLESS

Journal Article · · Metal Progr.
OSTI ID:4764095
Research on heat treated specimens of type 410 which had cracked in stress-corrosion tests (after chromium plating) revealed that improper heat treatment was responsible---because of incomplete quenching untempered martensite appeared on cooling from tempering. The degree of stress-corrosion cracking was directly related to the amount of untempered martensite present. (auth)
