EFFECTS OF IRRADIATED THYROID GLAND ON THE CEREBRAL CORTEX (in Russian)

Journal Article · · Radiobiologiya (U.S.S.R.) For English translation see Radiobiology (Engl. Transl.)
OSTI ID:4763947

An increased level of bioelectric activity and rapid cardiovascular constriction were observed 2 to 3 hours after irradiation of intact thyroid glands. The reaction is weakened or eliminated in animals with denervated glands. The experiments indicate that peripheral nervous system pulsation plays an important part in cerebral cortex activation and heart reaction in the first hours after exposure. (R.V.J.)
