The exposure of a chicken embryo to 400 r of x radiation on the sixth day of incubation depressed the development (501%) of eye scleral papilla; an exposure to 600 r completely eliminated the scleral papilla. An injection of 4 mg of phenatine into the yoke of six-day embryo also depressed the development of scleral papilla. Introduction of phenatine (0.5 mg) and mercamine (0.5 mg) per yoke before exposure to 400 r increased the number of developing papillae by 20 to 29%. (R.V.J.)
