Metabolism and relative values of the electrophoretic fractions of chicken embryo serum proteins as affected by gamma irradiation (in Bulgarian)
Modifications were studied that occur in the electrophoretic spectrum of serum proteins and their methionine-/sup 35/S inclusion on irradiation during chicken embryonal development. White Leghorn chicken embryos were used. The eggs were irradiated on the 10th and 16th day post incubation by gamma radiation at 500 and 1000 R at 500 R/min. In order to follow the influence of irradiation on serum protein metabolism, sterile physiological saline containing l0 mu C methionine-/sup 35/S was introduced in the egg chamber at the rate of 0.5 ml, 48 hours post irradiation. Isotope presence in blood serum protein fraction was determined 1 1/2 and 24 hours post injection by means of electrophoresis and contact autoradiography on roentgen plates. Egg irradiation both on the 10th and the 16th day post incubation resulted in serious disturbances in embryo development. Thirty-five to 50% of l000 R-treated embryos and l5 to 20% of 500 R- treated embryos died a day or two after irradiation. A larger number of embryos died when irradiation was effected on the 10th day. There exists a definite dependence between the degree of alterations in serum protein fraction ratios and the irradiation dose. The 1000 R dose produced stronger effect than the 500 R dose. Irradiation with various gamma doses during separate stages of embryonal development led to quantitative changes in the electrophoretic spectrum of chicken embryo serum proteins. treatment effect was more distinctly expressed on irradiation during the earlier stages of embryogenesis. Partially expressed, non- linear correlative dependence was found between the irradiation dose used and treatment effect. (INIS)
