Oxytellurides of the formula Ln2O2Te, where Ln = La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, or Dy, were prepared by reactions of the sesquioxides with Te vapor in H2 at 500 to 980 deg. The sesquioxides of Ho and the heavier lanthanoids either did not react or reacted only partially, Heating of the oxytellurides in air resulted in the formation of tellurates. Unit cell dimensions and densities are tabulated for all the oxytelluridea prepared.
